We are seeking an outstanding candidate for a position in scientific workflow development in the context of biotechnology. The successful candidate is expected to take part of a 4-year European project funded by H2020 at the MICALIS Institute (Jouy-en-Josas, France). MICALIS (UMR1319, INRA & AgroParisTech) is a research unit of more than 350 researcher staff developing multidisciplinary approaches and promoting systems biology approaches in microbial cells toward the development of synthetic applications for health and biotechnology.

Position description: The person recruited will be responsible for developing scientific workflows based on in-house computational biology/chemistry methods (see RetroPath at www.jfaulon.com) to i/ design enzymatic reaction rules and search enzyme sequences producing novel metabolic pathways, ii/ write pathways in standard formats including SBOL and SBML, iii/ plug pathways into constrained-based strain models and perform flux analysis iv/ write standard operating procedures describing experimental plans to implement pathways in strains. These items will necessitate interactions with molecular biologists and the person recruited will closely collaborate with an IT research engineer and wet laboratory research scientists already accustom to work together.

Candidate profile: Applicants should have a master, an engineering degree or a Ph.D. in either computer science, computational chemistry or computational biology. Essential qualifications include excellent coding practices and programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C++ as well as a good knowledge of analysis/modelling software (R or MATLAB) and scientific workflows, and some background knowledge in cheminformatics and/or bioinformatics. Experience with machine learning, software project development, and familiarity with relational/object databases and virtualized environments are desirable. Strong collaborative skills, ability to work and communicate in a team environment and excellent communication skills in English are required.

Position is opened for 12 months (then renewable for 2 years) from March 1st, 2018. The appointees will be hired through fixed-term contracts in accordance with the French legislation. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
