Job summary:

One position for a R&D post-doctoral fellowship is open at Center for Mathematics and Applications within the project “MONET: Multi-omic networks in gliomas”, with reference PTDC/CCI-BIO/4180/2020, which is financed by national funds from FCT, I.P./OE .

Job description:

  1. Scientific area: Data Science - Bioinformatics
  2. Admission Requirements: Applicants to this call may be national, foreign, or stateless candidates holding a PhD degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or related fields, obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of this application; candidates who will not exceed a period accumulated, followed or interpolated, of three years in this typology (post-doctoral fellowship), if the grant is awarded; candidates who have not celebrated, in the past, postdoctoral research scholarship contract with NOVA.id.FCT.
  3. Work Plan: The MONET project will advance current research on the identification of multi-omic molecular biomarkers in gliomas, aiming at improving patient diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic decisions. The post-doctoral research fellow will perform research work on the development of machine learning and bioinformatic tools for i) multi-omic data integration, ii) feature selection, iii) network inference and iv) predictive modeling, in accordance with tasks 1 and 3 of the MONET project.
  4. Rules and Regulations: The fellowship contract will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT “ Regulamento de bolsas de investigação da fundação para a ciência e a tecnologia, I.P. ”, in accordance with Law no. 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law no. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law no.233/2012 of 29 October and by Law no. 12/2013 of 29 January and by Decree-Law no.89/2013, of 9 July and by Decree-Law no.123/2019 of 28 August; Regulations for Studentships and Fellowships of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P.   5. Working Location and supervisor: The work is to be carried out atCenter for Mathematics and Applications, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Marta Belchior Lopes.
  6.  Fellowship duration: The fellowship will be attributed for 12 months,ng in July 2021, that may be renewable for a period up to 30 months, during the duration of the project.
  7. Monthly maintenance allowance and Benefits: According to the regulations of the FCT Scientific Fellowships in Portugal the net salary will be 1646 EUR/month, which will be paid monthly by bank transfer. The fellow will be covered by a personal accident’s insurance and can contribute voluntarily to the national social security system.
  8. Selection methodology: The selection of the successful candidate will be carried out through the evaluation of the scientific and curricular achievements, and the selection criteria and their respective weighting shall be as follows:

a) Motivation letter and two recommendation letters (30 %);

b) CV , in particular, the suitability of training and work developed to the area of the call (50 %);

c) Interview by videoconference, only for candidates with score obtained by the sum of the classifications of criteria a) and b) of at least 65 %, and for the three candidates with the highest score (20 %).

The candidates scoring less than 80 %, according to the above selection criteria, will not be accepted.

  1. Jury members: the jury is composed of the following members: Marta Belchior Lopes (CMA/NOVA LINCS, President), Jorge Orestes Cerdeira (CMA), Susana Vinga (INESC-ID), Ludwig Krippahl (NOVA LINCS), and Marcos Raydan (CMA).
  2. Notification of Results: The final results of the evaluation will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by e-mail, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and to the final ranking list. After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision, following a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Administrative Procedure Code.

The final decision will be taken after the previous hearing period has elapsed, which will be notified to all candidates again by e-mail, and a complaint may be filed within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or a hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT’s President through the address  coord1@novaidfct.pt.
