Description

DNA Script is a leading company in manufacturing de novo synthetic nucleic acids using a proprietary enzymatic technology. DNA Script’s approach leverages nature’s billions of years of evolution in synthesizing DNA to set a new standard for how nucleic acids are made and accelerate the adoption of synthetic biology across diverse disciplines such as biopharma, sustainable chemistry and data storage. DNA Script’s first product will be a DNA printer. On course to hit the shelves in 2021, this benchtop instrument will enable researchers to target and program specific areas of the genome.

To date, DNA Script has raised over $100M of financing, mostly through leading investors such Casdin, Agilent, Danaher, LSP, Bpifrance, Illumina Ventures, Merck Ventures, Sofinnova Partners, Kurma Partners, Idinvest.

DNA Script has its research facility headquartered in Paris, France, and is in the process of expanding its commercial and development teams in South San Francisco.

The role

DNA Script is looking for a talented Bioinformatician to provide comprehensive bioinformatic support to its Application Development Team which is central to the development of the company’s core technology. Today, DNA Script’s Application Development Team main mission is to develop new innovative applications for our technology, involving the current use of sequence alignment, oligo design and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, among others.

The candidate will be mainly in charge of leading the analysis and interpretation of high throughput sequencing datasets enabling the rapid evaluation of the applications under development. As such, the Bioinformatician will develop and apply bioinformatic methods and tools and perform tasks to help the Application team to interpret and prioritize their projects. In particular, the candidate will be in charge of developing:

Bioinformatic pipelines dedicated to the analyses of high throughput sequencing data
Tools for primer design
Bioinformatic analysis is central to the Application Development team therefore the candidate will need to interact with the different team members, understand their needs and develop the appropriate solutions.
We are looking for a person who is rigorous, methodical, well organized, detail-oriented, problem-solver and capable of playing a cross-functional role within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications and experience

Essential
Master’s Degree/PhD in Bioinformatics or Senior Bioinformatician with 5+ years of significant computational experience related to bioinformatics work in academia, biotechnology, or other healthcare field involving next generation sequence data analysis
First-hand experience in NGS analysis and methods as well as the computing infrastructure and data management methods to support NGS
Perfect knowledge of:
o Sequencing technologies and sound knowledge of the technical specificities inerrant to each of them (ie Illumina, PacBio, IonTorrent, Oxford Nanopore etc
o Large dataset analysis in Python
o Analyzing next generation sequencing data (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, etc.).
o Building an NGS pipeline
o Commonly used database and bioinformatics tools for NGS data analysis (e.g.) bedtools, SAMtools, IGV, ANNOVAR, Bowtie, GATK, ChimeraScan, UCSC Genome Browser, SoftGenetics, TopHat, etc.)
o Proficiency in a scripting language (e.g. Python, 3.0) and Unix environments
Knowledge about molecular biology and genomics, ability to translate a biological question into a mathematical model/analysis method
Proven experience and success in a team-oriented environment
Feel comfortable in a fast-paced work environment
Excellent level of English and good level of French

Desirable
First-hand experience at integrating publicly or commercially available genetic, genomic, and interaction datasets with novel experimental data to identify testable hypotheses
HTML/CSS, Javascript and SQL on NoSQL databases
Web framework (e.g. Django, etc)
