Description

One-year Position for Research Associate/Postdoc - COVID19 comorbidities through single-cell analysis at Medical Faculty Heidelberg

The groups of Steeve Boulant (https://ciid-heidelberg.de/research-groups/boulant-lab/) and Carl Herrmann (www.hdsu.org) at Medical Faculty Heidelberg have a shared DFG funded project to investigate molecular mechanisms of COVID19 comorbidities using single-cell analysis.

Within this project, we are looking for a research associate for a one-year position with a primary focus on the bioinformatics analysis of single-cell data, and potentially a complementary wet-lab contribution.

Background: several comorbidities with COVID19 (diabetes, overweight, certain cancer types,…) have been described from an epidemiological point of view. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain to be described. We have identified a potential actor of these comorbidities, which plays an important role to regulate the infectivity of cells to SARS-CoV-2 and appears to be deregulated in several other diseases [1]. We now want to extend this study to a specific disease, namely kidney nephropathies following diabetic condition. Preliminary single-cell data indicates an increased infectivity to SARS-CoV-2 in certain cell types of kidney organoids under hyperglycemic condition. We want to identify in depth molecular signatures from single-cell data and integrate already published scRNA-seq datasets to identify shared signatures between the kidney data and single-cell datasets from other tissues infected with SARS-CoV-2. This project is a collaboration with the Lab of Nuria Montserrat Pulido in Barcelona.

What we look for:

The project has an experimental and computational aspect. We are looking for a research. Associate/postdoc with a primary focus on computational analysis of single-cell data. Primary hands-on experience with single-cell analysis is required. Additional proficiency regarding experimental aspects would be a plus.

What we offer:

  • An exciting and highly relevant research project.
  • An outstanding scientific environment at Heidelberg University.
  • A project in close collaboration with two labs having complementary expertise.
  • A salary according to German payment scale (E13, 100%)
