Bioinformatics Senior Engineer (M/F)

Micropep Technologies is a young innovative plant biotechnology startup based in Toulouse, France. The company, which raised 8.5M€ in the latest fundraising, is developing a new generation of innovative plant stimulation and plant protection solutions for a more sustainable agriculture. Our products are based on a disruptive technology that uses natural peptides (miPEPs) that can transiently regulate the expression of plants’ microRNAs and their targeted genes*.

The peptide design platform is currently looking for a bioinformatics senior engineer with strong programming skills and knowledge of biology to join the team and both develop and strengthen its bioinformatics pipelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the responsibility of the peptide design platform manager, you will be responsible for:

• Developing and industrializing micropep’s bioinformatics pipelines
• Assisting in the set-up of new research proofs of concept
• Providing support around micropep’s bioinformatics-related pipelines and tools
• Implementing pipelines using cloud-computing services
• Developing our core bioinformatics software

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• M.S. required (PhD preferred) in computational biology or mathematics or computer science
• 3+ years’ experience in biological software and algorithm development (contribution to recognized bioinformatics software is appreciated)
• Experience in implementing data processing pipelines in a cloud computing service is highly appreciated
• Experience with working with biological data including any omics data
• Experience in using publicly available bioinformatics software
• Prior use of high-performance computing environments is a plus

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS

• Programming: fluent OOP and scripting in python
• Excellent algorithm design skills and data structure knowledge
• Proficiency in using Linux operating system and the command-line
• Proficiency in using a version-management system like git
• Knowledge of AWS or another cloud-provider is highly appreciated
• Knowledge of standard bioinformatics tools, databases
• Familiarity with the biological data formats (Fasta, Fastq, GFF, …)
