Description

The “Learning Meaningful Representation of Life” Group (Villoutreix Lab) of the Turing Center for Living Systems and the Bertrand Lab of the Developmental Biology Institute (IBDM) in Marseille have an open position for a research engineer in Bioinformatics.

Project: During development, for robust cell specification, gene transcription must be precise. However, several genomic topologies are problematic, such as the opposite nested configuration where a gene is located in the intron of a host gene in the opposite direction. The project aims at studying how this specific configuration affects the variability and precision of gene expression during development, using the C. elegans embryo as a model. In close collaboration with experimentalists, we will perform genome-wide characterization of the interactions between nested and host genes during development using single cell RNA sequencing data analysis.

Environment: The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment composed of mathematicians and computer scientists (https://bioml.lis-lab.fr - Villoutreix team) and of developmental biologists (http://www.ibdm.univ-mrs.fr/equipe/polarization- and-binary-cell-fate-decisions-in-the-nervous-system/ - Bertrand team). Moreover the candidate will benefit from the vibrant environment of the Turing Center for Living Systems. The proposed project is part of a collaborative ANR project (TransDev).

Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or related fields

  • Experience in the analysis of single cell transcriptomics data

  • Experience in the analysis of genomics data

  • A previous experience in the use and development of R/python packages for

biological omics data analysis would be an asset

  • Good communications skills in an interdisciplinary environment
