phylogenetic network algorithm data structure bioinformatics computational complexity

Description

The "phylogenetic tree" model has been used by scientists for 150 years to describe evolutionary history.  Due to its limitations, the more powerful "phylogenetic network" model is becoming increasingly popular.  This project will develop new tools for designing algorithms for phylogenetic networks.

The appointee will assist the project leader (Dr. Jesper Jansson at Kyoto University, Japan) to complete the project.  He/She will be required to:

(a) pursue theoretical research in phylogenetic networks, graph algorithms, succinct data structures, bioinformatics, computational complexity, or other related areas; and

(b) publish research papers in international conference proceedings and journals, as well as conduct presentations.
