Job description
The bioinformatics laboratory of the research center of the CHU de Québec - Université Laval (CHUL) invites applications for a Biostatistician position. This full-time fixed term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The Biostatistician will report directly to Arnaud Droit, principal investigator and director of the computational biology laboratory.
The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team focused on developing and applying computational methods in various other bioinformatics projects. The team uses state-of-the-art methods to analyse high throughput sequencing to analyze patient cohorts and identify biomarker signatures that could potentially serve as diagnostic markers. These methods include standard bioinformatics protocols, but also more advanced approaches relying on machine learning and deep learning. The applicant will be involved in several projects where biostatistics are needed. The position will start as soon as possible. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Support the bioinformatics teams when advanced statistics are needed
- Generate analysis figures
- Keep a technological watch in scientific literature
- Propose new activities or new tools to test
- Prepare software packages (including source code, help documents/wikis, and web or GUI interfaces) for public dissemination
- Provide bioinformatics support and training to research staff and trainees with varying computer science backgrounds
Qualifications / Requirements:
- PhD or Msc in a relevant area (Mathematics, Biostatistics, Statistics)
- Knowledge of R and Python
- Fluency with Unix
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (fluency in French or English is necessary)
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure
- Demonstrated communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
