Description

The research laboratory of Dr. Kateryna Makova in the Department of Biology at The Pennsylvania State
University has an opening for a Research Assistant Professor with experience in the analysis of
next-generation sequencing data, including whole-genome alignments and assemblies. A PhD and relevant
postdoctoral experience in Computational Biology or a related field is required. Candidates should be familiar
with general computational biology techniques, computing on a cluster, and should have a working knowledge
of computer science and biology. Prior experience with cloud computing is a bonus. The candidate will be
expected to work in a highly collaborative interdisciplinary environment and to interact with other faculty,
graduate students, and postdocs. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire,
with excellent possibility of refunding.
The successful candidate will join an established dynamic group with a strong record of funding and
publications (https://www.bx.psu.edu/makova_lab/). We are part of the Center for Medical Genomics
(cmg.psu.edu) and the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (ccbb.psu.edu). Additionally, we
have strong links with Penn State Medical School and computational biologists from the Galaxy team
(http://galaxy.psu.edu/). Penn State is a vibrant scientific community with particular strengths in bioinformatics,
computational genomics, statistics, molecular evolution, and population genetics. Our location in State College,
Pennsylvania, is known for excellent schools and numerous opportunities for outdoor activities.
