About the Role

Applications are sought for a Junior Software Developer/Data Analyst to join the Bioinformatics Team at the CRUK Barts Centre. We are an interdisciplinary team comprising researchers, software engineers and bioinformaticians who work together on well-established bioinformatics software and on developing novel cutting-edge tools. The role will be based within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

In particular, the successful candidate will support the development of the SNPnexus tool. SNPnexus is a genomic variant annotation tool developed to facilitate the analysis and prioritisation of variations on the human genome. SNPnexus is a mature product, with a strong worldwide user base and being used as a foundation for some of our other developments. As such, collaboration with members from other projects will be required.

About you

Essential requirements for this post include solid knowledge and experience of working with Python and at least one web framework (preferably Django). Knowledge of relational databases (Mysql/MariaDB) and front-end development: HTML, CSS and JavaScript, is also essential. Experience with R programming language and an understanding of clinical terminology (SNOMED CT, ICD, HPO) and clinical research data management system (REDCap) would be highly beneficial to this role.

BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians and clinician scientists from the Centre for Experimental Cancer Medicine and the Barts NHS Trust to achieve improvements in cancer patient care. BCI is also committed in supporting and developing future cancer researchers through its extensive postgraduate trainingIt is one of six institutes within The School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD).

The post is based at the Charterhouse Square Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years. The starting salary will be Grade 4, £36,348 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
