About iMEAN

iMEAN is a young innovative bioinformatics company based in Toulouse, specializing in building and using mathematical models of living organisms. We develop in-house tools that our own researchers use every day, and we also provide software solutions to help scientists explore biological data and models. We work with clients across biotechnology, agriculture, industrial biotech and academia.
Our mission: Accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable world by helping harness the power of living organisms and life’s diversity.

The role

Join a small, collaborative team to build the software behind our modelling platforms and client projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain internal bioinformatics tools used by our research teams.
  • Contribute to modelling algorithms and computational pipelines.
  • Build user interfaces for model exploration and biological data analysis.
  • Ship web interfaces for client projects in biotechnology and life sciences.
  • Work closely with bioinformaticians and biologists to turn biological needs into software.

Our stack (project-dependent):

  • Backend: Java (Spring Boot), Node.js, python
  • Frontend: jQuery (Spring Boot app), React (for new projects)
  • Database: MySQL, MongoDB (NoSQL)
  • Practices: Git, code reviews, Docker, CI/CD

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Master’s degree in bioinformatics or computer science with solid understanding of biological systems.
  • Experience building web apps (JavaScript/TypeScript or Java).
  • SQL experience.
  • Social and communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to support team members.

Nice to have:

  • Systems biology experience (mathematical or metabolic modelling).
  • Hands-on with bioinformatics tools and workflows.
  • Familiarity with Docker containers and deploying apps in the cloud (AWS, Azure).
  • Background in life sciences/biotech.

Why this role matters:
Your work will be crucial to our mission - you’ll develop the digital tools that enable bioinformatics solutions for researchers working on sustainable biotechnology, environmental solutions, and agricultural innovation. Much of your work involves creating tools that directly help your colleagues succeed, making collaboration and social skills essential.

What we offer

Compensation: from €37k depending on experience + performance bonus
Work-life: 39h/week, flexible hours, 5 weeks paid leave + 6 days (RTT), hybrid up to 3 remote days/week.
