Description

A post-doctoral position in human population genetics is opening in our lab (INSERM GGB UMR1078) in Brest, France to work on the Genome of Europe (GoE) project: https://genomeofeurope.eu/.
GoE will bring together over 100,000 whole-genome sequenced individuals from across 27 countries. The aim of the project is to provide a reference cohort of European citizens, selected to represent the entire population of individuals living in the continent, providing a basis for the development of personalised medicine and public-health initiatives.
The postdoc will be working on a series of use-cases that will demonstrate the interest of the project, including describing the landscape of genetic ancestry across the dataset, mapping differences in allele-frequencies between sub-populations (with a focus of clinically relevant and pharmacogenetic variants), creating ancestry-specific imputation panels, calibrated polygenic-score distributions, and incorporating variant calls from a subset of approximately 5000-10000 individuals with long-read whole-genome sequencing data.
Genome of Europe will operate in a federated analysis paradigm, with raw-datasets being held separately in different member states, hence the central opportunity for methodological development in the project centres around demonstrating the feasibility of the use-cases with minimal data-sharing and via methods that concentrate on anonymisation, federated learning, and data aggregation.
The post-doc will be responsible for developing workflows and, where possible, new methods in order to complete pilot studies for the use-cases of GoE. This is an exciting opportunity to work with leading experts across the whole of Europe in statistical and medical genetics.
The postdoc will also help in the recruitment process of the ~17,000 individual genomes that France will contribute to the GoE. This will involve analysing population structure in existing genotyping/sequencing data as well as demographic data from within existing epidemiological cohorts in France.
The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Population Genetics, or Statistical Genomics and a first post-doc experience. Strong experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis in a Cloud computing environment is essential. Proficiency in Linux/Unix is also required.
• Required experience: PhD.
• Duration of the contract: 24 months, starting early 2026
• Salary: Upon experience and according to INSERM salary standards.
