Epidemiology immunoproteomic child health endocrine disruptors

Description

The position is part of the EU-funded ENDOMIX project (https://endomix.eu) which aims to study the impact of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs such as phthalates or PFAS) exposure at critical life stages on human health. The candidate will work at the interface between epidemiology and systems biology, leveraging high-dimensional proteomic data (e.g., OLINK® Inflammatory Panel) to investigate the immune-related biological pathways linking EDC exposures to health outcomes. The candidate will play a central role in the analysis, integration, and interpretation of these high-dimensional data.

The specific objectives of the position are: 1) to study whether early-life exposure to EDCs can disturb immune function during childhood and adolescence, and 2) to determine if the health effects of these chemicals can be mediated by the disruption of immune function. The project relies on already collected data from several European birth cohorts, including biomarkers of EDC exposure (measured in blood or urine during pregnancy and childhood), immunoproteomic markers (OLINK® Inflammatory Panel measured in child blood), and a number of health parameters. Integrating molecular data across cohorts (linking exposures with immunological markers and health) will improve our understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms of EDCs. The effects of both individual EDCs and EDC mixtures will be investigated using state-of-the-art statistical models.
