Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our group (Schacherer lab, https://www.haploteam.org/). The PhD project aims to explore the genomic complexity of natural polyploids by phasing the genomes of several hundred individuals from two yeast species, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Brettanomyces bruxellensis. Long- and short-read sequencing data have already been generated for these samples. The resulting phased genome assemblies will be used to characterize structural variation and to better understand genome evolution of polyploids, with the goal of gaining insights into the phenotypic and adaptive potential of polyploid organisms.
Our laboratory will move early this year to the IGBMC (https://www.igbmc.fr), a leading European research institute dedicated to understanding human disease and fundamental biological mechanisms at the molecular level. This PhD project is part of a collaborative research program funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR; PolyPhase project: https://anr.fr/Projet-ANR-24-CE12-0998) and will involve co-supervision at the Genoscope (http://www.genoscope.cns.fr/lbgb).
The PhD position is expected to start in the spring and will be funded for a duration of 36 months.

Required skills
• A Master’s degree in bioinformatics
• Experience with Python or bash scripting and R programming
• Prior experience with sequencing data processing will be an asset
• Proficiency in English and good communication skills
