Description
Role:
The Molecular Diversity of Microbes team at the Pasteur Institute with the Innate immunity in Physiology and Cancer team at the Curie Institute are recruiting a research engineer.
The teams are developing methods and tools to explore and understand immunity across domains of life, from genomics to experimental work in various model organisms.
The role of the engineer will be to consolidate, update, and maintain the in-house database of genomes, as well as the tools developed to interact with it. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of DefenseFinder, the state-of-the-art and highly used software to detect defense systems in bacterial genome developed by the lab.
In collaboration with developers from the hub, the candidate will help develop web interfaces between the in-house database and experimentalist, external collaborators, or the public. These interfaces will be key in helping experimentalists explore bioinformatics results to prioritize their candidates for further experimental validation.
Environment:
The Molecular Diversity of Microbes (MDM) team and the Innate immunity in Physiology and Cancer team have a long-standing and successful collaboration. They work on the evolution of immunity across domains of life both in the perspective of understanding evolution of immunity but also as a proxy to discover new immune systems in bacteria and in eukaryote and in particular in human. The MDM team is collaborating a lot with the bioinformatic hub to make our prediction accessible to the public.
The MDM lab is part of the Genome and Genetic department, also affiliated with the UMR 3525 of the CNRS. The recruited candidate will spend 80% of the time on MDM team’s project and 20% with the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics HUB.
The candidate will be managed by Jean Cury, researcher in the MDM team.
