AI Computer Vision Surgery

Description

This post-doctoral position topic is included in the i-SaferS international research project between the University of Rennes and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The aim of the i-SaferS project is to use data- and model-based AI to automatically assess surgical contexts through the analysis of data provided by surgical robots for robotassisted hysterectomy.

He/she will study automatic surgical quality assessment of surgical phases from multimodal data, including video and kinematics. The concept of surgical quality will be further refined and formalized with international surgeons. Different approaches for automatic assessment using deep learning approaches will be studied and compared for real time quality estimation. More specifically, hybrid approaches will be studied by combining model and data driven approaches, constraining DL with apriori knowledge. Uncertainty will be taken into account with Bayesian framework.

For this project, we are seeking one postdoc with expert skills in deep learning and computer vision. Publications in surgical video analysis is a plus.

The MediCIS/LTSI lab is located within the medical university and is composed of researchers both from engineering and medicine working together on societal high value projects, in a context of responsible research, aware of social, environmental and ethical impacts.
