🚀 Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioinformatics & Computational Biology: Immuno-Oncology & Cancer Genomics
Location: Gustave Roussy Institute, Villejuif (Greater Paris), France – Europe’s #1 Cancer Center
Labs: U1361 INSERM (Translational Cancer Genomics, Dr. Sergey Nikolaev) in collaboration with U1356 INSERM (Translational Research in Immunotherapy, Prof. Aurélien Marabelle)
Contract: Initial fixed-term 12 to 24-month contract, with possible extension. Salary depends on experience.
🔬 Research Environment & The Team
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Fellow to join our world-class research ecosystem at Gustave Roussy. You will be at the heart of a collaborative effort between the Translational Cancer Genomics Group (led by Dr. Sergey Nikolaev) and the Translational Research in Immunotherapy Lab (led by Prof. Aurélien Marabelle).
Our team has many years of experience and a high level of professionalism in cancer genomics, with extensive expertise across solid and hematological, sporadic and familial, and metastatic cancers. We have a strong track record of high-impact discoveries, including:
• Describing the MAP2K1 driver gene in melanoma (Nature Genetics).
• Uncovering the multistep evolution of leukemia in Down syndrome (Blood, Nat Commun).
• Pioneering genomic annotation for APOBEC-induced mutagenesis (Genome Research).
• Identifying unique mutational profiles and clustered mutations in XP-leukemia (Nat Commun).
• Revealing the pan-cancer mutational landscape of refractory metastatic cancers (Cancer Discovery).
🧬 The Project: RHU REMISSION & High-Impact Clinical Trials
You will play a pivotal role in the RHU REMISSION project (Rapid Evaluation of Molecular & Immune Status for Stratified Immunotherapies in ONcology). This massive, €9.8M+ national consortium aims to dismantle conventional, histology-based oncology taxonomy and propose a new, biology-driven classification of cancers.
You will analyze multi-omics data from cutting-edge, prospectively collected clinical cohorts (localized and metastatic) to discover novel, patented biomarkers predictive of cancer immunotherapy efficacy and resistance. You will be working with data from groundbreaking trials, such as the one that led to our recent landmark publication: “Safety and efficacy of intratumoural anti-CTLA4 with intravenous anti-PD1” (L Tselikas, S Susini, et al., Nature, 2026).
💻 Your Role & Tasks
You will have access to a unique, massive bio-clinical database of fresh tumor and blood tissue analyses, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, immunologists, and data scientists.
• Process and analyze Whole Exome Sequencing (WES), bulk RNAseq, and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) data from hundreds of clinically annotated cancer genomes.
• Identify specific genomic alterations (e.g., SCNA, mutational signatures), transcriptomic profiles, and immune cell subsets associated with cancer immunotherapy outcomes.
• Perform unsupervised and supervised statistical modeling (e.g., multivariate Cox models, machine learning algorithms) to rank predictive biomarkers and define biological subgroups of responders vs. non-responders.
• Integrate complex genomic data with flow cytometry, IHC, and clinical trial endpoints to help build the “PORTRAIT” molecular screening program for future patient stratification.
🎯 Profile & Valued Skills
• Qualifications: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, or Machine Learning.
• Technical Skills: Extensive experience in human genome/transcriptome data analysis (WES, RNAseq, scRNAseq). Proficiency in Python, Snakemake and R, strong statistical background.
• Biological Knowledge: Familiarity with cancer genomics, somatic/germline DNA variation analysis, or tumor immunology is highly valued.
• Mindset: Self-motivated, able to work independently, and eager to actively collaborate with clinical investigators and bioinformaticians across the REMISSION consortium.
