Description

Project description:
Dendritic cells (DC) are promising targets for cancer immunotherapies because of their central role in the initiation and control of immune responses. The type 1 conventional DC (cDC1) population is of particular interest because of its ability to cross-present antigens to CD8+ T cells. However, the specific functions and activated signaling pathways of cDC1s in response to immunotherapy remain to be better characterized in human tumors. The objective of this project is to develop bioinformatics approaches based on single cell transcriptomic analysis to investigate the signaling pathways associated to different cDC1 subpopulations in human cancer.

The internship will provide hands-on experience in analyzing and interpreting single cell trancriptomics data. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying biological pathways and regulatory programs associated with cDC1 activation, with the goal of better understanding their role in immunotherapy response. This project is ideal for individuals interested in the intersection of biology, data science and cancer research.

Profile:
• Currently enrolled in a master’s program in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Machine Learning or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in R and/or Python.
• Proficient in working with a UNIX environment, including bash scripting.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Proficiency in English.

Work environment:
The internship will take place in the laboratory of Jenny Valladeau-Guilemond at CRCL (https://www.crcl.fr/en/research-teams/antigen-presentation-t-cells-and-cancer) for a duration of six months starting in early 2027. This project will be conducted in co-supervision between CRCL and the Computational systems biology of Cancer team at Institut Curie (https://institut-curie.org/team/barillot).
Short training periods at Institut Curie will be possible throughout the project, providing the student with opportunities to interact with the Curie research team and gain hands-on experience with advanced bioinformatics and computational genomics approaches.
