Travel grants

Each year, the SFBI offers grants to attend scientific events (conferences, training courses) in the field of bioinformatics in France and abroad, specifically to doctoral students, post-doctoral students and engineers who are members of the SFBI (via individual membership or membership as a legal entity of their laboratory).

Applications will be processed on an ad hoc basis, rather than on the basis of a call for proposals. Do not hesitate to submit your request.

Who can apply?

A doctoral student, post-doctoral researcher or engineer, member of the SFBI, who wishes to take part in a conference at which he/she will present his/her work in bioinformatics, or in a bioinformatics training course in France or abroad.

The winner undertakes to include the SFBI logo in the acknowledgements. The following text may be added: ‘This work was supported by a grant from the Société Française de Bioinformatique’.

How much is the grant?

The travel grant awarded by the SFBI amounts to a maximum of 500 euros (the grant may be adjusted in the event of additional transport costs) for members based on the continent. For members living in the French overseas departments and territories, the grant is a maximum of 750 euros.

What does the grant cover?

This grant only covers travel-related expenses (transport or accommodation). Catering and registration fees are not eligible.

How does it work?

Applications for scholarships must be sent to the SFBI (contact@sfbi.fr) before the event (conference, training course, etc.) takes place. Please complete this application form and save it in PDF format with the name ‘nom_prenom_bourseSFBI.pdf’.

The grant will be paid to the beneficiary and not to the laboratory after the conference and on presentation of the supporting documents.

By accepting the scholarship, you undertake to send us a two-page maximum report on your experience within three months of the conference, together with the following supporting documents:

Acceptance of your oral or poster presentation, or of your participation in the case of a training course,

A summary of the work presented,

Invoices for travel and/or accommodation,

Feedback on what you gained from taking part in this event via this form.

After this three-month period, the grant will be considered null and void.

Please note that this grant cannot be combined with other grant for the same event.

Allocation and timetable ?

Applications for support are accepted throughout the year (except applications for the JOBIM conference, see conditions below). Each request will be studied by a committee of the board, and a response will be returned within 1 month.
