Job networks
SFBI would like to help members of the community, as well as our governing bodies, to formulate the best possible job descriptions for bioinformatician posts. To this end, SFBI has made available a generic job description drawn up by several members of the SFBI board and the community.
SFBI also supports the dissemination of more specific job descriptions from our various supervisory bodies and organizations, drawn up by the bioinformatics job networks. Below are the professional networks.

MERIT (MetiER en bioIinformaTique) is the national network of bioinformatics engineers from higher education and research establishments (ESR). MERIT is supported by several CNRS institutes: INS2I, INSB, INEE, INC and INSU. Find here the proposal for the creation of MERIT. This network is open to all staff (engineers and researchers) from all supervisory bodies who are interested in bioinformatics engineering activities.
The development of data acquisition technologies in the life sciences is generating an avalanche of data. Professions that enable this data to be managed, processed and analyzed now represent a key challenge. For example, laboratories with bioinformaticians are shared between different CNRS institutes. What's more, bioinformatics engineers can sometimes work in teams or laboratories that are far removed from bioinformatics.

The PEPI IBIS (Bioinformatics and Statistical Engineering) is aimed at INRAE engineers and researchers in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or biology who are responsible for analyzing or developing ‘omics’ data analysis tools. PEPI provides a forum for exchanges on tools, methods and, more generally, practices from the bioinformatics and statistics disciplines, to help them meet the new challenges posed by these new approaches. The aim of PEPI is to foster the emergence of a new community of bioinformaticians and statisticians, focusing on the exchange of information and mutual support based on the principle of sharing experiences, methods and practices.

The French Bioinformatics Network for Diagnostics (or BioInfoDiag) is a non-profit association under the French Law of 1901, created on September 27, 2018. Its objectives are to:
- Bring together the various communities of users and developers of bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines for the diagnosis and management of human diseases directly or indirectly related to genomics.
- Provide a common platform for exchanging, testing, and documenting bioinformatics tools and analysis processes for the diagnosis and management of human diseases.
- Promote the development, availability, and dissemination of innovative bioinformatics tools for the diagnosis and management of human diseases within a quality-oriented approach.
- Encourage data structuring, the development of interfaces between different data sources, and their interpretation. The structured data will be shared with the community through national databases.
- Share the developed solutions with the widest possible audience of professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of human diseases through regular communication of tools and ongoing initiatives.
- Train users on bioinformatics tools for the diagnosis and management of human diseases.
- Promote the improvement of the quality of bioinformatics tools and pipelines used in the diagnosis of human diseases in compliance with ISO 15189 and other applicable standards in medical biology laboratories (LABM).
