Where to publish ?

A question that often comes up for members of our community… Where should I publish my resources? Many platforms and journals allow you to showcase your work—whether it's a tool, data, or a research article.

For tools, there are code hosting platforms designed to manage collaborative code development and version control. These platforms enable all members of a research project to work together online while avoiding development conflicts. One platform widely used in our community is GitHub.

For data, in addition to general databases such as NCBI, which allows you to store data in predefined formats, national research institutions have set up platforms to make data from affiliated labs publicly available (for example, INRAE). There are also specialized platforms for publishing datasets, such as Dryad.

For publications, you may want to consider open-access journals with no publication fees, such as those offered by Peer Community In (PCI). There are also many journals specifically focused on bioinformatics. You can find lists of these journals on platforms like Google Scholar.

Aware of current publishing practices that restrict open access to knowledge, SFBI supports and actively encourages open science. New initiatives will soon be implemented in support of this goal.
